Rescue Alert for Parrots
We always seem to get e-mails from people that have had horror story rescue, surrenders. Or they have adopted a parrot and when they have problems and call that rescue they hang up. So although we do have a News Alert page we felt it was time to move some of that info to another page because it deals with Parrot rescues. We also feel that we our not bashing other rescues but warning people. People will make up their own minds who they want to deal with.
One of the rescues in Ontario has been in operation since 2004. They are not register as a Not For Profit, they don’t vet check any incoming parrots, they don’t vet check parrots when adopting them out. They don’t believe that it is their responsibility to get parrots tested. They claim adoption money goes for food, but Mark Hagen donates food to them as he does with all Parrot Rescues. They have scammed the public for money, also companies which you can read below.
They are while known in the parrot community, to be bad news. They post in breeding rooms they have parrots for adoption, but than state in another public chat group that the same parrots are not adoptable. They claim adoption will only take place once we are certain that all of their behavioral problems are assessed.
That statement is a lie. On their site a posting done on December 21, 2010. States they rescue 11 parrots the day before which we assume December 20, 2010. That these parrots are now for adoption. They state they participate in the rescue of a number of birds as a result of the show Confessions of an Animal Hoarder. How true that is we don’t know because they once stated that the SPCA backed them up and that was not true and the SPCA ordered them to remove that comment.
Although they claim adoption will only take place once we are certain that all of their behavioral problems are assessed, these 11 parrots are already for adoption. Anyone adopting one of these parrots that have not been check by a vet, have not been accessed for problems is asking for trouble. This rescue and they have proved it time and time again only do this for the money. Medium to large parrots adoption fees start at $400.00 up to and over $800.00. We know people that have gone there and have said they have no feathers and lunge at you. Her fees are in stone.
They always want to come and get the parrot(s) from you. They don’t want you to go their, as than you will see what this place is truly like. We have had parrots come here that were their and removed by the owners when they saw what the place looks like. They state all these things on their site as they want people to think they are the best. This place is nothing but a disease pit. We get calls from people stating they got a parrot from them and have run into problems and they won’t help.
What they claim on their website is mostly lies. I chuckled when I read that some of these parrots are paired and they were told to keep them, another words they are breeders. This rescue has been scamming the public for years and as you will read below, please think twice before you deal with them.
*ADOPTION ALERT*
Parrots For Adoption But Owners State In A Room They Are Not Adoptable.
We have have been asked by people that know about this rescue and now that we have proof from 2 chat group postings. One is stating parrots for adoption posted in a breeding room. The other posted in another group stating they are not adoptable by the owners of the rescue.
This only proves they want money, they don’t care as they state about the parrots. They once again have posted in the same group same parrots. They have around 35 parrots now for adoption they say. Money value is about $10,000 and we could be low. Easy money for doing nothing.
Please be very careful when adopting from this rescue. My main concern as many other people is you have no clue if the parrot has a disease or not. You might think your doing a good thing but you could also be spreading a disease around that could kill any animals you may have at home. Remember diseases are airborne.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to foster aggressive birds out?
Specially the large birds. The one catalina lunges at everyone but Brett
but as soon as he goes to touch her she starts moaning and panting. She did
rip the top of his finger off once also. To top that off she is feathering
up but mostly bald. The blue and gold is so underweight and will never get
her feathers back due to the follicle damage but she is getting better for
us. The two timnehs are not so great. Both males, badly plucked, I have
managed to finally get them both to step up but are unpredictable and will
bite once they get on you.The yellow collar macaw is the worst. He wants no human contact with anyone
other than 2 people I have seen but due to the look of him, neither were
interested as he is missing feathers from his cheek patches down and all
around his neck. Some are starting to grow back but not sure how many he
will get. ALL of their hormones are just below the surface and panting starts
almost instantly with touching.Eventually we will have success with these birds but it will probably take a
couple of years. We finally win them over and fix them and they bond to us
only we have to rehome them again. It is harmful and I would like to see
the practice stopped. Why not just buy breeders rather than turn these poor pet birds into
something they are not. It all boils down to saving a few bucks or getting
a free bird.N. D.
Scam Alerts
We have yet un-covered another fundraising scam that this rescue has tried to cover up like the auction scam. This was posted in Abirdsforsale yahoo group which is for breeders buying and selling parrots. They also post alot in here that they have parrots for adoption. Not sure why when they know this is a breeders room, put to and to together? Posted as a fundraiser not sure what for what.

The public need to ask questions as to where all this money has gone. These people are in fact using the parrots so they can live. If not where is the building, and who won the trips.
Adopt At Your Own Risk
Beware of Parrot Rescue Near Peterborough, Ontario.
Last month we posted about a parrot rescue that was adopting parrots out that in fact by the owners post in another group were not adoptable. This out raged allot of people. We got some real nasty e-mails from people that remember them when they were in Oshawa. Others said the place was just a disease pit. Some even commented on how they tortured a parrot named Dung by removing its wing.
We also got a phone call from a group of people who are so out raged they have been researching and have stumble across some things that they feel the public should be aware of. Something they feel the rescue would like to forget. Raising the Roof Auction – 2006-07-21. This was nothing but a scam they pulled off. From their own website “quote” (Blank Rescue) volunteers have teamed together to host a Raising the Roof Auction on September 23, 2006 at 11am.
All proceeds will go towards the new 20 ft by 40 ft aviary that will house the large birds at the rescue. This group said the problem is no building was ever built, and the money was gone within days, Thousands of dollars and they can’t account for any of it.
They wonder how something like this happen and no one says anything. Or is it the rescue would like people to forget about it. This rescue claims they are not for profit, but the group checked it out and they are not registered.
They were told anyone can say that, it is up to the public to so their research. Thousands of dollars has gone through this rescue. One lady said the government does not pay much each month and from the looks of it the owners are living off the backs of these parrots. This is a shame and the public should be out raged.
Four years later and still no building has been built. They have defrauded and had no intentions in the first place to build anything.
Even Habitat for Humanity got scammed for an item. This is pretty low one lady said scamming Habitat for Humanity. These people only care how they can get money nothing else.
